Responsibility

Quality and sustainability are the set of qualities that constitute our way of being, attesting to our character and genius. They are not only a matter of service commitment, project excellence, good design, customer satisfaction, continuous improvement, staff safety, joy of living, or compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. They are not only a matter of civility, which they also are, but for us, they are the quality of being warm, of proximity, of paying attention to the other, of generosity. Hence, we believe that quality, sustainability, and honesty necessarily complement each other. And as in love, they are determined in the details. And we try to apply ourselves well to them. Every day.

Headquarters in Belloch

Since 2003, our headquarters have been located in Parc de Belloch, an extensive estate of more than 170 hectares about 30km from Barcelona, towards France. Far from the hustle and bustle of the city and attentive to nature, we are developing a knowledge park focused on management, design, and ecology. We try to plant our seed towards the future surrounded by trees and with our own nursery, Belloch Forestal, which is focused on the re-naturalization of cities. We cultivate selected species for the city following high quality standards and through the innovative Air-Pot system. We optimize the management of our 120 hectares of forest to reduce our CO2 footprint every year.*

Aware that our activities have an impact on the environment, we pay special attention not only to the carbon footprint but also to the management of water and energy. These are some of our actions:

1. We reduce our water consumption by maximizing the efficiency of our irrigation systems, capturing and using rainwater from our facilities.

2. We work with a policy of plant cover that improves infiltration and prevents erosion of our soils.

3. Today, we have 1662m2 of photovoltaic installations that allow us to produce up to 275 Kw/h, covering our entire consumption in times of maximum production. Our intention is to generate 100% of the energy consumed in our offices, all year round.

Nearby production

75% of our suppliers are located within a radius of less than 150 km from our headquarters. Since our foundation, more than 35 years ago, we have defended local and artisanal production. An efficient industrial production, which causes the least possible residual impact. We work with the best industrial suppliers and artisans, ensuring excellent standards of quality to the eye and touch. We are excited that crafts add their uniqueness, giving each piece a unique personality.

In 2021 we implemented a supplier code that aims to become a tool to promote the improvement of relevant aspects in each of the companies we work with. Our Quality and Environment department is committed to achieving the best quality throughout the production process, always together with our producers. We accompany our suppliers in the ambition to be more sustainable.

The right light

Since 1985 we have defended comfortable light, contrary to cold-touch lamps. We reflect on darkness, those hours in which we live without sunlight. But also on the influence of artificial light in daily life, and its effect on spaces and people's circadian rhythms. We try to create environments and sensations, day and night, that improve habitability at home or in professional or commercial meeting centers.

We reissue the lamps in our catalog, always respecting the original design and making them as sustainable as possible. Using LED means an energy saving of more than 80% compared to halogen bulbs. We have been doing it since 2010. Today, our entire catalog is. Whether integrated LED, in new products, or in LED bulbs, in the case of some reissues.

Circular waste

At Santa & Cole we aspire to transform the classic industrial cycle of “collection of matter, production of elements and generation of waste” into a more balanced one, of “sustainable creation of products that generate economic, social and emotional value”, conceived from their cradle to disappear without causing harm, being ecologically sensible. We want our waste to nourish a next production after a worthy life of use.

In recent years we have undertaken an ambitious project to reduce single-use plastic and optimize cardboard. In addition, we only work with FSC certified paper. Whenever possible, we use biodegradable and reusable materials as substitutes for plastic.

Since 2005 we have been audited with ISO 14001 (environmental management) and ISO 9001 (quality management). Both audits require us to have an ambitious waste plan.

Selection of materials

All our products are born with a timeless vocation defended through the form, the technical solution and the careful selection of materials. We are more moved by quality than by quantity and our purpose is not to accumulate but to choose. That is the material culture that we have been defending for more than 35 years. The selection of the right materials is an important part of our creative process. Being publishers and not depending on machinery, we place special emphasis on the life cycle of our products and only work with materials that age well.

We want your lamp to be with you for a long time and extend the life cycle of our products for generations. Here you can buy original spare parts for damaged parts for your lamps. And here you can read our tips to keep them well.

Certifications

Good intentions alone are not enough; our practices must be verified by independent experts. Through internationally recognized audits, we ensure full traceability of materials and validate our commitment to responsible production.

We hold the following certifications:

Certifies that our products meet the European Union's essential requirements for safety, health, and environmental protection. Mandatory for sale within the European Economic Area.

A U.S. and Canadian safety certification that ensures our products have been independently tested for electrical and fire safety.

Required for products entering the Chinese market. Confirms compliance with national standards for quality and safety.

We comply with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive for electrical and electronic components. We also comply with the Waste Directive (RAEE/WEEE) for respectful waste management.

Demonstrates that our internal processes are designed to ensure continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.

Validates our commitment to responsible environmental practices and the reduction of our ecological footprint.

We have recently received a grant from the Spanish Chamber of Commerce as part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan financed by the EU with NextGeneration funds, through the aid program for obtaining international quality certifications. This grant reinforces our track record in complying with the highest standards in design, production, and environmental management.
