A graduate of Barcelona s School of Architecture, Tito Dalmau, an architect by profession and photographer by vocation, was a founding partner, in 1972, of the BDM Arquitectos studio with which he has carried out numerous architectural, interior design and industrial design projects. Some of these works have been published, along with Dalmau s photographs, in international books and magazines and have been awarded prizes and distinctions.

His interest in cities like New York and Tokyo, where individuality, apparent well-being and voracious consumerism have become a way of life, is counterbalanced by a fascination for other cultures that, in the eyes of the West, are an explosion of confrontational and heterogeneous sensations, evocative of dreams. Since 2004 he has been making long trips to India every year and the result are the photographs that he has been sharing daily in various spaces since 2009.

Dalmau describes Rajasthan as an incomparable place, a discovery. He captures images that are busy with noise, in which, beyond the colour that describes the cities, people take centre stage. How they relate to each other, their mentality, the way they move and their gazes. Piercing gazes that are difficult to understand.

The artist uses small cameras, which are less intimidating and allow for much more direct communication with people. He is passionate about the power of appropriating the world by looking, capturing images and composing. In short, his interest in architecture, drawing and photography is notable for its emotive capacity, and that is what he wants to convey.

Tito Dalmau has had several exhibitions in Barcelona, including at Fundació Vila Casas-Espais Volart and the gallery H20. He has also published several books in which he shares his photographs, such as Rajasthan. Houses and Men, and two books in very limited editions of original copies Varanasi and Shekhawati.
