Photographer Montse Campins trained at the ELISAVA School of Design and Engineering in Barcelona and at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena (California, USA). She lives and works in Barcelona, where she focuses mainly on experimental photography.

Since her first collective exhibition in 1983, she has continued to show creative works and unearth new aesthetic approaches. She also has a profound interest in social photography.

Campins has tackled themes such as the position of women in today s society through random portraits of women with a common denominator, their name: Maria. She has travelled with the camera through overlapping layers of time and space, stages and discoveries in Viajando con Olga, and worked on a range of projects in which she often mixes reality and fiction.

Montse Campins s work is characterised by her free, unfettered vision that includes an extensive aesthetic concept, not so much as a stylistic resource but as a harmony heralding simplicity. Always immersed in research and experimentation, Montse is interested in ancient techniques and in combining them with digital photography, video and storytelling.

Thus, in the series La Cadencia del Cian, she experiments with cyanotype, articulating, by means of the repetition of the image, a rhythm through which to navigate and find in each duplication a new interpretation that is different from the first impression. Questioning whether even if what is repeated is really the same or if it is simply an illusion that mutates as we traverse the work, we are immersed in a cyclical temporal space that hypnotizes us.

Montse Campins challenges the imagination and highlights the potential of ancient practices, expanding them further in a digitalised and ever- changing present.
