Born in 1971 in Dublin, Eva Rothschild is a contemporary artist working primarily in sculpture. In addition to her sculptural oeuvre, she has signed original artwork and limited-edition illustrations.

Rothschild received a BA in Fine Art from Ulster University, Belfast, and later obtained an MA in Fine Art from Goldsmith's College, London, where she currently lives and works.

Eva Rothschild s is a material-based studio technique and her work is predominantly sculptural, using a variety of materials such as leather, fabric, aluminium and others. She constructs an irregular geometry influenced by the work of Constantin Brancusi.

Rothschild s work refers to artistic movements of the 1960s and 1970s such as Minimalism, as well as contemporary aesthetics of spirituality and protest, in which she shows and works on the transformative power of the gaze. She explores the relationship between materiality, classical architecture and New Age spiritualism.

"I use segmentation a lot, building something from repeated units, so that there’s almost a suggestion that they can be taken apart," explains Eva Rothschild. "In a way, I never think of a piece as a unified whole. It could always come apart. In the finished product the material is still open to transformation."

Eva Rothschild represented Ireland at the 58th Venice Biennale; and her works are in the collections of the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh, the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin and the Tate Gallery, London, among others.
