Inspired by the solemn beauty of ceremonial candles, Cirio offers a contemporary take on an age-old cultural relationship with light. Wax candles—intimate objects by nature—have long celebrated light as a symbol of gathering, festivity, or quiet reflection.
Across cultures, lamps have transcended their practical function to become elements of ritual and symbolism. Cirio builds on this legacy while offering an exceptionally flexible and versatile design solution. Through repetition and density, it gives rise to modular compositions that reinterpret the concentric arrangements of Istanbul’s Hagia Sophia, the grandeur of classic chandeliers, or the cascading lights of palatial architecture—all in a distinctly contemporary language. Originally conceived in porcelain to evoke the warmth of a wax candle (Cirio, from the Latin cereus, “of wax”), the collection now includes four shade options, each designed to meet different needs. The delicate porcelain from Sargadelos — available in smooth white or pleated like corduroy — provides a warmly enveloping illumination that lifts the spirit. For greater luminous efficiency, opal glass is a more voluminous and economical alternative. The opacity of brass enables focused, directional lighting. Four finishes for countless forms.
A noble and subtle material, glossy on the outside and matte on the inside, porcelain allows light to diffuse evenly without harsh reflections. When lit, its translucence gives the white surface a warm amber glow.
Each piece is individually crafted at Sargadelos, following a process that demands time and the skilled hands of artisans. With over two centuries of history, this Galician ceramic institution is regarded as one of Europe’s finest, alongside the renowned porcelain houses of Sèvres in France and Meissen in Germany.
