Carmen Galofré. Fall in New York
24 November 2024 – 5 December 2024
Fall in New York is Carmen Galofré’s first solo exhibition in New York, featuring a series painted during her stay in the city in the autumn of 2023.
Carmen Galofré seeks to capture the nuances of light in each of her works. Through brushstrokes that are both rich and light, she portrays the intensity of light and its effect on diverse landscapes, conveying her fascination with this phenomenon.
Throughout her career, she has drawn inspiration from Mediterranean colors to create a harmonious palette where whites, ochres, and blues intermingle, yielding compositions filled with vitality and visual depth. For Carmen Galofré, her pieces represent a silent dialogue with mystery, an exercise in expression that rejects the ephemeral practices of contemporary artistic trends.
Arriving in New York in October 2023, she encountered a setting vastly different from the Mediterranean landscapes she typically takes as a starting point; a landscape where the silhouettes of iconic skyscrapers blurred with the city’s dazzling neon lights. Despite this contrast, Galofré managed to capture the essence of Manhattan through subtle strokes portraying buildings shrouded in bluish and cream tones, all while preserving the core of her pictorial style.
Carmen Galofré’s New York series is a timeless expression of the city that also reflects the artist’s refusal to view the world through constant dualities. For her, painting is a meeting ground between figuration and abstraction, a cosmos where different pictorial languages intertwine to shape a personal, Mediterranean perspective.
The showcase includes both original pieces and Neoseries, which made it possible to present this exhibition simultaneously at the gallery in Barcelona and in New York.
