Born in Barcelona in 1962, Xavier Fabré studied architecture at ETSAB, where his early interest in public and cultural spaces took root. Before graduating, he worked on various projects, exhibitions, and publications, and later began teaching as an assistant professor at the Faculty of Architecture in Barcelona.

In 1988, he founded his own studio with Lluís Dilmé, where the two architects have focused on projects ranging from schools and housing to museums, parks, and urban spaces. Their shared sensibility—rooted in thoughtful design and respect for context—has shaped many public spaces across Catalonia.

Fabré’s name is particularly tied to the reconstruction of Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu after the devastating fire of 1994. Alongside Ignasi de Solà-Morales, Lluís Dilmé, and Eulàlia Serra, he helped restore the opera house, designing not only its architecture but also its custom furnishings, including the iconic Liceo lamp—now part of Santa & Cole’s collection.

His ongoing focus on theater architecture led to the restoration of other historic spaces such as the Teatre Principal in Sabadell, the Teatre Guastavino in Vilassar de Dalt, and the transformation of the Can Gibert site in Montserrat into a contemporary art center. Throughout his work, Fabré continues to explore how architecture can honor the past while creating spaces that feel alive and relevant today.
