Wood, coffee, and sound come together at Jaç, a new Barcelona café with interior design by Isern Serra. Architecture that invites you to pause.

Coffee is not meant to be rushed here, nor taken with an open laptop. Jaç proposes a different pace and idea of what a café can be. Located in Barcelona’s Eixample, this new space with interior design by Isern Serra, revives a tradition born thousands of miles away and reads it through a Mediterranean sensibility. The result is neither simply a specialty coffee shop nor a vinyl bar. It is a place made for listening.

The inspiration comes from jazz kissa, the small, dimly lit Japanese cafés that emerged after the Second World War as refuges for music lovers. At a time when few people could afford records or high-fidelity sound systems, these places offered an almost ceremonial experience. Conversation receded, speakers took center stage, and each album was listened to with the attention of a concert. They were true temples of sound.

Jaç takes up that legacy and adapts it to Barcelona. It carries the spirit of the kissa into a more everyday way of gathering, leaving aside their solemnity. The name itself contains that intention: jaç means to recline, to rest, to let oneself go in Catalan. An invitation to pause in the city. Nothing more, nothing less.

The interior turns this idea into something tangible. Within just 95 square meters, the studio has created a sequence of spaces where architecture, furniture, and sound blend together. Walnut wood, warm-toned microcement, stainless steel, curves, and carefully measured lighting shape a restrained, refined tone. Everything responds to the same idea: recovering the pleasure of stopping and enjoying time without hurry.
