Ferran Freixa Jové was born in 1922 in the small town of Menàrguens, Lleida. In 1947, he moved to Barcelona, where he studied technical architecture and began teaching drawing in several respected schools—a path that would shape his lifelong balance between practice and education.

After collaborating with architects like Martinell, Bonet Garí, Bonet Armengol, and Sostres, Freixa founded Best-Form in 1959—one of Spain’s first companies dedicated to modern furniture design. There, he introduced iconic pieces like the BKF chair and developed his own designs, including the Nagoya N-4 lamp, which earned him ADI-FAD’s first-ever Gold Delta Award in 1961. He followed this with a Silver Delta the following year for a wall sconce.

But Freixa’s impact went far beyond objects. He was deeply involved in the cultural and institutional life of design, serving on the ADI-FAD board, helping organize the influential ICSID Congress in Ibiza in 1971—where he served as treasurer—and co-founding Barcelona’s Design Centre (BCD). His entrepreneurial side led him to launch ACORD S.A., a company focused on larger-scale furniture production, where his award-winning Series Minor 10 stood out.

n the 1980s, Freixa joined forces with Antoni de Moragas to help restore several historic monuments in Barcelona. In the 1990s, he founded his own studio, Produccions Estudi Freixa, turning his focus to lighting design. The resulting Prisma collection earned him the Silver Delta in 1997. Ferran Freixa passed away in Barcelona in 2008, leaving behind a legacy that blended industry, culture, and design—always with an eye for thoughtful innovation.
