Mariona Raventós
Barcelona, 1955
Mariona Raventós was a designer deeply attuned to material and its sensory qualities. Trained at Elisava in the 1970s, she developed a keen sensitivity to texture, color, light, and the tactile dimension of objects. Early on, she embraced design as a warm, everyday form of expression—where function becomes emotional.
Together with Jordi Miralbell, her partner in life and work, she founded a studio in Barcelona in 1979. From there, they explored interior design, graphic design, film, and stage design. In 1986, they began producing their own pieces under the Neoseries label, with a clear inclination toward the handmade. One of their first creations, the Arco lamp, featured a parchment shade hand-painted by Mariona—full of delicacy, expression, and poetic gesture.
In 1989, their work was formally integrated into the Santa & Cole catalogue, where they had already been collaborating for some time. From then on, they became partners and artistic directors, with an active voice on the Editorial Committee. There, they helped define a vision of design that was sober, sensual, and collaborative, and continued to create thoughtful objects such as the Dórica lamp.
Mariona brought soul to the objects—the sensuality of color, the vibrancy of materials, and the warmth of the artisan’s touch. Jordi complemented that sensibility with structure, proportion, and technical logic. Together, they created serene, essential pieces—always full of life.
