Carmen Galofré

Graduated in Drawing and Painting from the University of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi in Barcelona, Carmen Galofré is a painter, astrologer, and teacher in both disciplines. She reflects on the human condition, what defines us as individuals, what determines us, and at the same time grants us freedom. Driven by a desire to understand life and the complex relationship between inner and outer worlds, Galofré advocates mastery of the craft as a pathway to greater freedom of expression. In this expression, resulting from a very personal style, figuration and abstraction, tradition and modernity coexist harmoniously to connect with the audience, evoke emotion, and convey what words cannot express. Carmen Galofré’s work reveals a constant yearning to paint the intangible: air, atmosphere, light. Her work revolves around perception and the emotion elicited by observation. Her palette is harmonious, with a particular emphasis on white in its various shades, used subtly to achieve transparency, depth, volume, and brightness. She especially excels in depicting materials and the sensations they convey, allowing viewers to distinguish porcelain, glass, leather, or cardboard without seeing them explicitly. Without directly painting glass, she captures the shine, reflections, and transparency that let us intuitively perceive it — a testament to her skill in playing with perception. Skillfully connecting her experiences and inner reality, Carmen Galofré portrays moments and scenes from daily life, people from her surroundings or spontaneous encounters during her travels, moving landscapes, and reflections on her own intimacy. Her interiors speak to her personal and psychological evolution: once inhospitable spaces have transformed into tables with half-full glasses, desks with open books, consoles with flower vases or found objects. In short, traces of a full, intense life dedicated to art with honesty and rigor. Her recurrent themes include compositions, nudes, spheres and planets, India and its landscapes, literature, and seascapes.
