The new facilities of the National Library were inaugurated in December 2000, completing an ambitious refurbishment project carried out by the architecture studio JUNQUERA Arquitectos. The Paseo de Recoletos headquarters thus recovers the original 19th century structure and is decorated with a layer of technological infrastructure to develop in the 21st century. The adaptation and the restoration of the spaces existing in accordance with the treatment that they were going to be given was one of the refurbishment’s main objectives.

The alignment of Nimba hanging lamps, designed by Antoni Arola, gives a significant atmosphere to two of the building’s reference rooms, combining elegance and a functional nature.
