Barcelona, 1943

Born in Barcelona in 1943, Eulàlia Serra graduated in interior architecture from the ELISAVA school. With the aim of discovering the world beyond Catalonia, she travelled to New York to further her studies at the prestigious Parsons School of Design and Columbia University. In the early 1990s, she decided to return to Barcelona, where she created Fil i Grana, a range of contemporary embroidery designs using traditional techniques. Born in Barcelona in 1943, Eulàlia Serra graduated in interior architecture from the ELISAVA school. With the aim of discovering the world beyond Catalonia, she travelled to New York to further her studies at the prestigious Parsons School of Design and Columbia University. In the early 1990s, she decided to return to Barcelona, where she created Fil i Grana, a range of contemporary embroidery designs using traditional techniques. Fil i Grana, earned Eulàlia Serra a slew of national and international awards. In 1994, she joined the architectural firm Ignasi de Solá-Morales, carrying out the reconstruction of the Gran Teatre del Liceu.

The project included creating the Liceo pendant lamp, in commemoration of the fire that ravaged the great opera house. The lamp consists of a sphere with a light source at the bottom simulating a stunning fire flower. It is currently part of the Santa & Cole collection.

Between 1995 and 2001, Eulàlia Serra was vice-president of FAD (Fomento de Artes y Diseño), where she founded Alimentació/FAD, an association for research in food and gastronomy. In 2005 she won the competition for the refurbishment of the ground floor of the Pedralbes Palace in Barcelona, another major project in the interior designer s oeuvre. Following her term as vice-president, she served on the jury for design projects such as La Cocina y la Vivienda (Barcelona 2000), Los Años Glamurosos (Barcelona 2001) and 100% Catalan Design, 100 Chairs, 100 Books, 100 Shoes (Stuttgart, 2002).

Eulàlia Serra is a multi-faceted and industrious woman with a career ranging from interior architecture, design and even encompassing food.
