The main objective of the restoration of this apartment located in Barcelona was "to reflect the personality and way of life of its owners". The starting point of Francesc Rifé’s architecture and interior design studio was to develop connections between the past, the present and the future, conceiving the interior in harmony with the building. The meticulous renovation conserved the architectural elements that characterized the house, such as the mouldings, the semi-circular arches and the high ceilings.

Part of the success of this scheme lies in the design of a new access to the upper rooms originally occupied by a very steep staircase and a courtesy bathroom. The new design, featuring a large bookcase and windows, sought to give the dwelling a new narrative and meaning, turning the space into a key architectural experience thanks to its use and layout.

In the living room, divided into a reading and sitting area, a new fireplace and new furniture were designed to combine with the sofas, chairs and lighting by iconic 20th century designers such as Miguel Milá. Facing the Bulthaup kitchen, the dining area was fitted with furniture of the clients such as the Carl Hansen CH24 chairs designed by Hans J. Wegener and the Santa & Cole Maija suspension lamps designed by Ilmari Tapiovaara.

The upper room, where the railing has been converted into a work table, features more design pieces, such as the legendary Eames Lounge Chair, the Cesca chair by Marcel Breuer and the Cesta lamp by Miguel Milá.

The works of art and books belonging to the owners are also featured in all the rooms, giving character to the whole dwelling.

The result is a home that speaks of contemporaneity through its natural materials, light and objects.
