The prize-giving ceremony for the "Living Labs Global Showcase Award 2010" took place on Sunday 14 February, at the headquarters of Esade-CREAPOLIS in Sant Cugat del Vallès.
The awards are organized by Living Labs Global, an international association devoted to building transparent and stimulating markets for advanced mobile services, in collaboration with industry, the public sector and the scientific community.
The cities of Barcelona, Cáceres, Chicago, Eindhoven, Comarca de La Selva, Oeiras, Sant Cugat, Stockholm and Taipei have joined Living Labs Global to announce these awards for the first time, with the aim of finding the most innovative technological solutions to respond to the major social and environmental challenges of the present, above all those which affect cities.
321 innovative applications took part in the competition, from companies from 28 countries and 140 cities worldwide. From among all the solutions taking part, the 5 that URBIOTICA submitted were all short-listed.
An international jury chose the 11 best proposals, and in the end URBIOTICA was awarded 2 of the prizes:
1 Award granted by the city of Sant Cugat, for the application of outdoor parking space control and a reduction in traffic congestion.
2 Award granted by the city of Barcelona, for the application of refuse container control and improvement in the collection service.
Apart from recognizing the value and the innovation of the technological solution proposed, the prize consists of the possibility to start up pilot projects of the winning application in the city which has granted the award. URBIOTICA will therefore implement the two winning applications in Sant Cugat and Barcelona in the coming months.
