On July 12th Ingo Maurer was awarded the Compasso d’Oro, the most prestigious distinction in the design world, granted by the Associazione per il Disegno Industriale every year since 1954.

Even though acknowledgement has remained constant since Bulb – his first lamp – the designer born by the Lago Constanza declared he had felt like Roberto Benigni at the Academy Awards.

Named “Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres” by the French Ministry of Culture, and Doctor Honoris Causa by the Royal College of Art in London, today many of his designs belong to the most prestigious museums’ collections around the world.

Well beyond its functionality, Ingo Maurer’s lighting bridges design to contemporary art with extraordinary poetry.
